Re: Kanye West about negative impact of social media
You highlighted one of his worst songs as evidenced by the ratings on Rateyourmusic, the most trustworthy website to anyone who's passionate about music:
https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/kanye-west
For the contrast, I'll highlight his best, which includes almost everything he's ever done:
And this is my personal favorite of his:
His indisputable musical genius aside, whether you like it or not is a matter of taste.
And it's far from being my favorite genre, I'm more of a new wave, neo-classical and pop music guy, but I can recognize excellence when I hear it.
For example, I would never listen to System of a Down, well I did out of curiosity but it's just not my cup of tea, yet I saw them live and thought they were absolutely amazing for many reasons.
Taste is separate from quality. Take any genre, and you'll find anything ranging from the very best to absolute shit, and no. Taste is subjective, quality is not.

Generally not a fan of that kind of music though. I prefer rock groups like Blink-182 and 311.

It's simultaneously mainstream to hate him though and the dislike for him is very widespread, especially since he advocated Trump on various occasions. So its still acceptable from a high-brow perspective to like him without being a pleb.

Definitely feel like there's something to be said of him being one of the most if not the most influential artist in music for over a decade, the most critically acclaimed in both high and lowbrow circles across virtually his entire discography, and simultaneously on a totally different angle produce a viral meme track that hits 170 million views in a month, a full two decades into his career. Trashy though it may be.Admin wrote: ↑4 months agoYou highlighted one of his worst songs as evidenced by the ratings on Rateyourmusic, the most trustworthy website to anyone who's passionate about music:

Re: Kanye West about negative impact of social media
Stop being so cryptic.
Seriously, I respect that Kanye advocated for the Trump presidency because it shows he is conservative at heart and is smart enough to realises the free market is a realistic way forward for the average black American.
May they rise and prosper.
He is also deeply religious, that I can appreciate too as it indicates he cares deeply about America's founding roots.
It's just...
His music and cultural influences blows.
It belongs on the dancefloor of normalcy and that bores me greatly.
Mainstream kids dropping Kanye references on a night out in Kings Cross is standard fair around here.
They do it because it's de rigueur (or was). Time to move on.
Kanye is history. RIP.
Is he still dating that Kardashian momma?

Re: Kanye West about negative impact of social media
He should really call it a day and rest on his early legacy.
Seriously, what can a forty eight year old black man offer Middle America anymore?
